A Full Day Guided Tour to Epirus and the Monasteries of Meteora in Mainland Greece
Our guided tour begins with pick-up from your hotel or holiday accommodation. After departing Corfu by ferry we sail to Igoumenitsa on the Greek mainland and drive through Epirus, passing some of the most beautiful mountain villages in the region.
We have lunch in Kalambaka, a small town situated at the foot of the Meteora. The Metéora (meaning in Greek "suspended rocks", "suspended in the air" or "in the heavens above") is one of the largest and most important complexes of Eastern Orthodox monasteries in Greece. The six remaining monasteries are built on natural sandstone rock pillars and are included on the UNESCO World Heritage List. They date back to the end of the 12th century. After lunch we will visit the monasteries and have a chance to view the priceless historical and religious treasures.
On our return journey to Igoumenitsa and Corfu, we make a short stop in the lakeside town of Ioannina for coffee. Our ferry will arrive back in Corfu in the evening, when we will return you to your hotel or holiday accommodation.
